What are West Coast cannabis strains?
West Coast cannabis strains are genetics associated with the American breeding scene, particularly California and the wider western United States. The term is not a formal botanical classification, but is commonly used for strains developed from influential American genetic families such as OG Kush, Cookies, Sherbet, Z, Gorilla and other USA parent lines.
Modern West Coast cannabis strains continue to build on these foundations, combining established American genetics with newer parent lines such as Zoap to create hybrids selected for potency, resin production, distinctive terpene profiles, colour and growing characteristics.

The best choice depends on whether your priority is potency, flavour, resin, plant structure, flowering time or growing environment.

What are exotic West Coast cannabis strains?
Exotic West Coast cannabis strains are modern hybrids created from sought-after American genetics and distinctive parent combinations. “Exotic” is a breeding and cannabis-culture term rather than a scientific classification, and is generally used for genetics that stand out through unusual terpene profiles, colour, resin production, potency or distinctive ancestry. While classic West Coast breeding established families such as OG, Cookies and Sherbet, newer exotic genetics introduce increasingly diverse crosses incorporating lines such as Zoap and other modern USA genetics.

What are the best American cannabis strains?
There is no single American cannabis strain that is best for every grower, but several genetics have become particularly important within the Original Sensible Seeds USA collection.
Bruce Banner #3 remains an OSS flagship and long-standing customer favourite, while GG4 Original Glue represents one of the best-known resin-heavy American genetic families. Alien Moonrocks and Banana Fumes have also become popular choices among growers looking for potent modern USA hybrids, while Blue Zenith represents the newer generation of American-influenced genetics. For autoflower growers, Black Orchid Auto adds award-winning performance to the selection, having placed third in the Indica category at the 2025 Autoflower World Cup.
Rather than choosing purely by popularity, compare flowering time, plant size, cannabinoid potential, terpene profile and whether the strain suits your intended growing environment.

What makes a cannabis strain a Cali or West Coast strain?
A Cali or West Coast strain generally has a meaningful connection to genetics developed or popularised through the California and wider US West Coast breeding scene. That may come through its direct breeding history or through influential parent families such as OG Kush, Cookies, Sherbet, Z, Gorilla and their descendants.
The definition has evolved as American breeding has evolved. Modern Cali West Coast strains can combine these established families with newer genetics such as Zoap, creating increasingly complex hybrids. The term therefore describes a genetic and breeding heritage rather than one particular plant type, flavour or growth pattern.
-
What are modern USA cannabis genetics?
Modern USA cannabis genetics are the result of continued breeding from influential American parent lines alongside newer-generation hybrids selected for characteristics such as potency, resin production, terpene expression, colour and plant performance.
Earlier West Coast families including OG, Cookies, Sherbet and Z remain important building blocks, but contemporary breeders increasingly combine them with newer lines such as Zoap and complex multi-parent hybrids. This has created a much broader spectrum of American cannabis strains than the classic OG and Cookies-dominated selections of previous generations.

What are the loudest and gassiest weed strains?
“Loud” is commonly used to describe cannabis strains with particularly strong, pungent aromas, while gassy cannabis strains are known for fuel, diesel and similarly intense terpene characteristics. Aroma can vary between individual plants and growing conditions, but some Original Sensible Seeds genetics are particularly notable for their powerful profiles.
Zingatsu stands out for its intense aromatic character, combining prominent orange notes with a powerful underlying funk. Orange Biscuit produces a strong, complex aroma with citrus, sweet and gassy characteristics, while Purple Punch Cookies brings together rich Cookies-influenced aromas with sweet fruit and a deeper fuel-like edge.
For growers looking for loud American weed strains, these three offer very different interpretations of the strong, unmistakable aromas associated with modern USA cannabis genetics.
